Fileside

Release notes 2.0.3

By Erik Jälevik on 25 June 2026

Second wave of post-2.0 fixes and tweaks.

Improvements

  • Added Copy Target Path to context menu for links.
  • Changed the Add Favourite menu item and shortcut to toggle the favourite status of the current pane, instead of always trying to add it (even when it was already added).
  • Always clear any existing selection when starting a search.
  • Windows: Clearing the stash now uses the same logic as invoking Delete on a folder, complete with progress dialog. Should fix the occasional “Operation was aborted” error seen with the old method.

Bug fixes

  • Fixed progress window appearing at the wrong size if a zoom level other than 100% had been set.
  • Fixed drop popup menu appearing at the wrong location if a zoom level other than 100% had been set.
  • Fixed splash screen getting zoom level applied.
  • Fixed cancelling of moves between network drives.
  • Dragging column headers in a table view no longer scrolls the view upwards if the listing is scrolled down.
  • Fixed PageUp/PageDown moving by less than a full page in grid view.
  • Fixed clicking and dragging a file outside of an existing selection so that only that file is dragged.
  • Fixed old selection being restored after pasting an image into a pane.
  • Fixed hover area over path segments not coinciding with parallelogram-shaped buttons.
  • Mac: Fix dragging a file from Fileside to the trash icon in the dock.
  • Mac: Fix Open With only opening one file/folder even if several were selected.
  • Mac: Fixed an issue where /Volumes would fail to list if a mount created by another logged-in user was present.
  • Windows: Fixed size sometimes shown as 0 on freshly pasted files.

Introducing Fileside 2

It’s done. It took a bit longer than I’d hoped but Fileside 2 is done. It represents an almost complete rewrite and features a new thumbnail grid, a completely reworked layout management system, non-blocking file transfers, tons of new settings and much more.

The plan for Fileside 2

Over the past year I’ve had a steady stream of emails asking if a Fileside version 2 is coming. One even wondered whether the project is still being maintained. The short answer is yes. Fileside 2.0 is deep in…

Four weeks of voice computing - here's what I learnt

After a recent flare-up of RSI-related wrist pain, I decided to make a serious attempt at becoming proficient at speech computing. My hope was to be able to add an alternative input method in order to offload my hands, and allow them some rest even during my daily work. I’m now four weeks in and this post summarises my impressions. The journey has had its fair share of frustrations, but also brought some surprising insights.

Full Disk Access - what is it and what does it do?

A quick search for “Full Disk Access” reveals plenty of results, although some are misleading if not outright dishonest. Many come from application vendors suggesting that if we don’t grant their Mac apps Full Disk Access, they might not work as intended. In fact, the vast majority of applications should have no reason to need Full Disk Access.
